Londoners at Leisure The Skater’ in Battersea Park won The Illustrated London News Award for the theme ‘Londoners At Leisure’.
Of course I was thrilled. The prize money was the equivalent of a month’s salary and the late Anthony (Tony) Wedgwood Benn presented the cheque to me in the Royal Festival Hall, where the photograph was exhibited for several weeks. It was also published in that prestigious magazine and in a national daily newspaper.
